Study Abroad and Travel Opportunities
Want to visit the fashion runway shows in Florence, Italy? Attend fashion market week in Atlanta, GA? The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and Apparel Design and Merchandising program offers students frequent and diverse opportunities to travel the United States and study abroad for course credit.
Students of all majors are invited every year to experience Florence, Italy in the 3-week winter course Food, Fashion, and Family. One of the most popular study abroad courses on campus, FCS Department Chair, Dr. Dana Bush, and ADM Assistant Professor, Susan Kipp, expose students to a new culture and fashion world according to Italy. Students study the language, attend museum and costume exhibits, tour a popular leather accessories manufacturers’ facilities, study retail operations and consumer behavior, and attend popular men’s, women’s, and children’s fashion shows!
Our students have travelled abroad to Florence and Milan, Italy; Edinburg, Scotland; Barcelona, Spain and many more exciting countries!
Not all study of fashion has to be abroad- you can learn so much about our industry right here in the United States! Exploring our local, regional, and national industry allows us to discover new cities, fashion ideas, network, and have fun!
Students enrolled in ADM 119 – Introduction to Apparel Design and Merchandising travel yearly to AmericasMart in Atlanta, GA to experience fashion market week and the buying and selling process. Students receive a behind-the-scenes tour, network with fashion professionals, explore the market, and watch fashion shows.
ADM students have previously traveled to Charlotte, NC to tour Cotton, Inc. headquarters and study textile manufacturing and printing; completed a New York study tour; and attended a yearly International Textiles and Apparel Association conference in Savannah, GA.
Our students have travelled to Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; New York, NY, and many more!
